Richard Bernard ("Rick") began his insurance career with Insurance Planning Service in 1973 selling life and health insurance and soon after became licensed to sell property and casualty lines of insurance. Today his time is devoted totally to commercial property and casualty clientele and agency administration. Rick earned his Certified Insurance Counselor ("CIC") designation and became a Licensed Insurance Counselor in 1991, and earned the Accredited Advisor in Insurance ("AAI") designation in 2006. In 2010, the Society of CIC recognized Richard Bernard for maintaining all update requirements for twenty years which places him in the top one percent of all insurance professionals in the country, according to Dr. William T. Hold, CIC, CPCU, CLU, President of the Society of CIC.
Until the recent acquisition by the Lighthouse Insurance Group, Mr. Bernard had been the president and owner of Insurance Planning Service, an independent insurance agency in Livonia, Michigan. The agency had been family owned since its inception in 1957, and is built on integrity, honest advice and professional attention.
Rick is married and has one son who is married and lives in Kalamazoo, MI. He enjoys traveling and cars. His wife works with pet rescue organizations and is a foster mom for kittens until they're old enough for adoption.
