Nutritionist with FruitLiving healthy doesn't necessarily equate to a strict diet and exercise regimen. Achieving overall wellness does entail lifestyle changes, but it doesn't have to be hard. Try these seven tricks for living a healthier lifestyle.

  1. Keep healthy options nearby: Stock up on healthy snacks, like fruit, yogurt, granola and bottled water. If you replace junk food with healthy choices, it's much easier to improve your diet. Instead of regularly buying chips, candy and soda, save them for a special occasion or as a treat once per month.
  2. Eat your breakfast: Eating a healthy breakfast, even if it's small, kickstarts your metabolism each morning. In fact, people who skip breakfast tend to gain more weight. Replace carb-heavy cereals with low-fat yogurt, fresh fruit, eggs, oatmeal etc.
  3. Catch some Z's: Getting a full eight hours of sleep each night is a great way to improve your health, not to mention it's very relaxing. Nighttime is when your body heals and restores itself. In fact, cutting back on sleep can lead to mood swings, psychological issues and even poor heart health.
  4. Focus on what feels right: It's tough to stick to a diet and workout routine, and people feel bad about themselves after breaking them. Rather, instead of focusing on concrete goals, focus on the good choices you make. Eating a healthy meal or taking a long walk through the park leaves you feeling good, which helps program your brain to do more of those activities.
  5. Exercise for fun: Many people dislike the gym, even though they know that exercise is important. But there are plenty of fun activities that get you moving. Try dancing, gardening, cleaning, walking around a museum or any other activity that involves physical activity. It's great for your heart and brain health, not to mention your waistline.
  6. Eat lots of berries: Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries etc. are rich in antioxidants, which boost your immune system and overall health. Berries are a sweet treat for children and adults alike.
  7. Apply plenty of sunscreen: Skin cancer is a big concern around the globe. Slather on some sunscreen any time you're outdoors for more than 15 minutes, including long car trips on sunny days.
